About our Firm

Johnston & Owen, LLC, is a litigation firm engaged in the practice of bringing claims for auto accidents and wrongful death as well as handling family law matters including divorce, division of assets and debts, alimony, child custody and visitation, child support, adoption, legitimation and preparation of domestic agreements. Our firm is also engaged in real estate litigation and handling both residential and commercial real estate closings.

Our firm frequently accepts referrals from other attorneys and our former clients.  We believe that the most effective method of advertising the quality of the legal services that we provide is by competently and tenaciously representing the clients that we already have. Advertising only requires an advertising budget. It takes much more to build a reputation.

Our practice focuses primarily in the Fayette, Henry, Spalding, Coweta, Pike, Upson, Lamar, Butts and Monroe County courts. We know the judges in these judicial circuits and we know the attorneys that regularly practice there. Understanding the law is critical to effectively representing our clients, but substantial experience with specific court systems, judges and the opposing attorney is equally as important.

When a case goes to court judges tend to rule a certain way based upon the evidence that they hear. Your attorney needs to understand what is important and what is not important to the judge that is assigned to your case, and your attorney needs to understand how to minimize any negative evidence and how to “drive home” the positive aspects of your case. Trial strategy is critical, and it varies depending on the judge that is assigned to your case.

Knowledge of the tactics of the opposing attorney is also very important.  Most people assume that they need a “bulldog” in order to win their case.   In my experience this approach frequently annoys the judge that hears the case.   Most of the time they would prefer that the lawyers just use common sense approach and avoid the unnecessary theatrics.   When an attorney lacks credibility with the judge the client pays the price.
