William G. Johnston, III

William G. Johnston, III, was born in Ft. Benning, Georgia. He graduated from the University of Georgia in 1986 with a B.S. in Microbiology. He received his law degree from the University of Georgia in 1990. Mr. Johnston accepted a position with Gardner, Willis, Sweat & Goldsmith in Albany, Georgia following his graduation from law school. In 1994 he relocated to Griffin and established the law firm of Shepherd & Johnston. The firm changed its name to Johnston, Owen & Bullard in 2006.

Mr. Johnston represents a substantial number of businesses, professionals, practice groups and financial institutions. His practice focuses primarily on general business litigation, banking and corporate litigation, contract disputes, formation of new business entities, commercial transactions, wills and trusts, and estate litigation. Mr. Johnston is currently the Judge of the City of Griffin Municipal Court and is general counsel for the Peace Officers Annuity and Benefit Fund, the Spalding County Board of Health, and the Butts County Board of Tax Assessors.

Mr. Johnston has extensive trial experience in the Georgia Supreme Court and the Georgia Court of Appeals. Some of his appellate cases include Vortex Protective Service, Inc. v. Dempsey, 218 Ga. App. 763 (1995); Harville v. Gunter, 230 Ga. App. 198 (1998); Desai v. OK Oil, Inc., 233 Ga. App. 855 (1998); Owens v. Ink Wizard Tattoos, 272 Ga. 728 (2000); Cook v. Huff, 274 Ga. 186 (2001); Beacon Security Technology v. Beasley, 286 Ga. App. 11 (2007); Reed vs. Auto Owners, 284 Ga. 286 (2008); Parton v. Haviland, 212 Ga. App. 835 (1994); Bailey v. Bailey, 266 Ga. 832 (1996); Lee v. Green Land Co., 272 Ga. 107 (2000); and Johns v. Morgan, 281 Ga. 51 (2006).

Mr. Johnston has a son and a daughter and is married to the former Dixie Brown of Knoxville, Tennessee. He is a member of the First United Methodist Church of Griffin and is actively involved in various civic and community organizations including The Boy Scouts of America, Rotary International, and the Griffin-Spalding Chamber of Commerce.
